New Year New Pups

I feel absolutely estatic! Not just coz of Chinese New Year. After all, the angpow collection has been dwindling for many years. But my dog, Jill, is now a proud mummy of 7 pups. She gave birth to them on 8th Feb. Woke up in the morning to discover the 7 bundles of joy. Right now they all look like guinea pigs with their eyes closed.

Two are dark brown (looks just like their daddy - both males), two are black (1 male and 1 female), one white female and two are beige in colour (1 male and 1 female). Sadly none of the pups look like their mummy who is black and brown. The black pups are almost pure black except for one who has a white patch on its chest. Will post pics when they're older.

They make a hell of a lot of noise when it's nearing feeding time. Jill is trying very hard to keep all of them well fed and well taken care of. I'm also glad that Jill is eating well. I was worried that being a 1st time mum she will not be eating well coz of the confusion.

Last night was scary though. I got back and Jill started nursing the pups. But she had moved them all to another spot on the grass. Earlier in the morning all the pups were under shelter but Jill had moved them to an open spot on the grass.

It had been raining in PJ earlier in the evening and the rain clouds were travelling en route to my house. Gosh! I better get them under shelter.

So I tried and tried to get Jill to move her pups back to shelter but she just gave me a look that said, "Can't you see I'm busy nursing my pups? How can I move them now? They're hungry!"

And this grandma here (I sure do feel like a grandma now) didn't know what to do. It started drizzling. I brought an umbrella to give them shelter. And all the time talking to Jill to get her to move to shelter. She just refused.

The rain got heavier and heavier and the wind was blowing. I was feeling cold from squatting in the rain. What more those poor little fellas. But Jill just refused to budge. As usual, she's still her stubborn self. Maybe learning from this grandma here.

Soon it started to pour. That was the last straw. I got Steven to grab Jill by the mouth and dragged her into the sheltered area. I helped to get some of the pups. They were all shivering and drenched. And so was I!

Got some towels to dry all of them up and soon all the pups started nursing again. Phew!

All are doing fine this morning when I left for work. Can't wait to see them when I get back.

And oh by the way, they are up for adoption. I have 4 already taken (although the new owners haven't chosen which ones they want). So there's 3 pups available. Much as I would love to keep all of them I know that is impossible. I already have 3 which is already such a handful. Anyone keen to become a proud pet owner?
